The concept of the “hidden curriculum” refers to educational norms that are never explicitly communicated, impeding the success of international students, first generation students, and others. At DU, we created a microcredential program for student employees and found that the program became a tool for uncovering the workplace hidden curriculum through direct discussion of otherwise-implicit workplace norms. In this table talk, we will explore the implications of the workplace hidden curriculum and how microcredentials can be an important tool in overcoming them.
